RIDING PROGRAMS

We are pleased to offer a variety of programs, including:

Equine Facilitated Learning

Our Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) programs teach leadership, relationship, and life skills in partnership with our equine instructors.  Our curriculum does not involve riding and can be customized to meet the needs of your group or organization.  Sessions run between 9 am and 4 pm, year-round.  Ages 8+.

THERAPEUTIC RIDING

All ages.  Offered September through June, Monday through Friday, 9am to 4 pm.

Early Riders

P'TIT TROT

Ages 6 - 8. Offered after school.  Developing the basics of horsemanship.  This program offers four levels of certificates and prepares a rider for the Equine Canada Rider Level program (see Rider Level Classes, below). The program manual is available from HHR.

Rider Certification

Riders may opt to study the Equestrian Canada (EC) Learn To Ride (English) curriculum. They may opt to bring their own horse and tack or part-lease one of our horses. Details are provided on the Program Fees page. The Learn To Ride Programs are aimed at individuals who wish to become well-rounded horse people, who are able to care for and ride their horses in a correct and safe manner, and wish to be recognized for doing so at a national level.  The program provides a systematic approach for introducing new riders to equestrian sport.

Organized into levels (English Learn To Ride Levels 1-10), the Learn To Ride Programs develop practical hands-on stable management and riding skills along with the knowledge that will help ensure riding is a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Experience and skills developed during training are supported by further learning material found in the rider manuals that accompany each level in the program.  Proper riding technique is best developed with the aid of an EC-certified instructor/coach, and the program has been designed to follow that approach.  These instructors/coaches are provided with materials, guidelines, and specific training to support their delivery of the Learn To Ride programs.  Roxy is an award-winning Equestrian Canada (EC) certified Instructor of Beginners, and holds her EC Rider Level 8 English certificate.

Accompanying each level of the program are rider tests (see next section for details) that are composed of a written theoretical component, a hands-on stable management component, and a riding component, all designed to test the rider on their knowledge learned at each specific level.  Successful candidates will receive nationally accredited certificates and Rider Level badges.

Join today!  Feel good about participating in a program that is for everybody and accomplishes the following:

  • Tracking your progress successfully;
  • Working towards a national standard;
  • Learning to ride safely and correctly;
  • Developing a range of skills and knowledge; and
  • Recognizing and celebrating your achievements.

RIDER LEVEL TESTING

Testing for Equine Canada Rider Levels is offered annually to riders 9 years of age and up.  We will not allow a rider to test unless we are quite certain they are capable of passing.  Testing and test registration fees apply.
